Achievements

  • At the end of Financial year 2003-2004 POWERGRID is operating around 48,000 ckt of extra high voltage transmission lines with 82 Substations having transformation capacity of 46,500 MVA.
  • System availability consistently maintained above 99%.
  • Grid performance has remarkably improved with implementation of ULDC, Implementation of ABT, Effective and Efficient O&M.
  • Conferred with the prestigious ARTDO (Philippines) award in 1996


Future Plans

  • Development of National Grid by 2012 with the creation of “Transmission Highways .
  • Development of SAARC Grid to promote the concept of electricity exchange with the neighboring countries.
  • To create a Telecom backbone Network of 20,000 Kms by the year 2005 connecting 60 cities including all Metros and Major towns.

Mission

Establishment and Operation of Regional and National Power Grids to facilitate transfer of Power within and across the Regions with reliability, security and economy, on sound commercial principles.

HUMAN CAPITAL

Considered to be one of the biggest amalgamation and acquisition process in Public Sector History, 6144 employees of different Power Utilities were transferred to POWERGRID in 1991.

Relative to the Business Plans and following the well established Manpower Norms, the overall manpower registered a growth of 12 % over a period of 10 years, where as the profit registered a remarkable growth of 242% during the same period.

The year wise Transmission Lines per employee has increased from 3.93 Circuit Kilometer in 1992-93 to 6.73 in 2002-2003.

Majority of the manpower in POWERGRID are in the age bracket of 36 to 45. These youthful and highly motivated Manpower are the backbone of every success story written in the annals of POWERGRID.

The organization provides promising avenues to acquire higher educational qualifications to build higher competencies amongst its employees.

Strength of employees in Supervisor and workmen category having qualification of Diploma and above is 89% and 35% respectively.

POWERGRID is one of the first Power Sector PSU to have HRD targets in MOU. Within the supervision and control of HRD Deptt. at Corporate Center. Training Programs are being conducted in a professional way by the Employee Development Centres located in every Region.

The Training cost per employee at Rs 1.66 thousand in 1993-94 has increased to 6.75 thousand in 2002-2003.
